A little bit of here and there

I just can't believe it's June already! But before I get caught up and forget look at my awesome new header! *cough cough nudge nudge* my sweet friend Jill made it for me. I think it's fabulous!

As bittersweet as it is I am happy to see May gone! Not to mention I can't believe we have survived a whole month with D, yet at the same time it feels as if we've been battling it for a lifetime! Of course just as we were getting the hang of things D does what it does best and threw us off our feet. CJ came down with what tests have shown to be a UTI and along with a fever that peaked at 105.6 her blood sugars went soaring! BUT after a trip to the ER, many sleepless nights and a few more proverbial gray hairs she is finally stabilized and we saw a nice pair of double zeros on the ketone meter this evening! woohooo We are waiting on results of her repeat urinalysis and urine culture to make sure the infection is indeed gone but we have been fever free for 2 days now so my hopes are high.

I must confess that the camera has been a bit neglected in the past few weeks so much so that each time we drive to the top of our block Aiden calls out from the back seat "oh shoot forgot the camera"! ... hmm guess he's heard it enough times huh? But none the less here it goes ...

The kids and I attended our town's Memorial Day parade, sadly Eddie had to work so my parents joined us on the adventure.

Aiden was unimpressed until the firetrucks rolled through and then boy did those eyes light up ...

CJ enjoyed dancing with the bands but was thoroughly heartbroken when Mommy had to take away the sweets the well meaning marchers would throw our way. Up until now there haven't been very many moments where D has stopped her from eating something, a common misconception I find myself correcting people about constantly. I believe most of this is because we keep very few sweets or candies in the house if any at all, and with the exception of high glycemic index foods CJ can eat anything you and I can. Things like cake icing (hence the cool whipped birthday cupcake), juices, and other fast acting sugars that would send her BG soaring faster then insulin could take effect are to be avoided BUT can be used to help bring us lows ... so baby girl isn't completely deprived. Anywho back on topic ...

By the time we got back to the park for the post- parade festivities Aiden's only interest was the firetrucks so off we went to play

After a ride back to the firehouse we made our way back up to my parents where my little fishies helped fill the pool

The water fun didn't stop there ... we proceeded to assemble a hillbilly-esque sprinkler in which Aiden had quite a blast!

We also celebrated the first train ride of the season! Aiden couldn't wait to get on...

One weekend my mother and I took the kids upstate to visit our old neighbors, and what was supposed to be a hike turned into some good-ol backyard and out door fun! The kids soaked up the sun and fresh air, and it was quite sentimental to see them exploring the same places I have so many fond memories of as a child.

Aiden found a caterpillar!

CJ was more about the flowers ...

and also decided to finally let me get her new "trick" on camera!

A enjoyed some watermelon too!

We also ventured to the zoo with our dear friends Renee and Becka one morning

checking out some turtles ... with Gordon in hand of course

and of course the trip wouldn't be complete without a train ride! I keep promising myself I will share some of my knits on here but never get around to it so here is a recent project :)

leaving our zoo adventure is when I discovered CJ's fever and it all went down hill from there :(

Today we made a trip up to Lowe's for some shower curtains ... that resulted in my second attempt at a veggie garden. oh how I love Eddie for entertaining me so. Our first attempt was sabotaged by the landscapers and their icky fertilizer. We just got some basil, tomatoes and peppers ...

and lo and behold discovered 4 of my bean plants survived the fertilizer fiasco!

The kids enjoyed some yummy blue berries while Daddy grilled
